Welcome to Ian's car page...
MKI Golf GTI 16V

This is an ongoing (last 5 years off the road!) project that I'm going to restart work on soon...

It's a heavily modified Y reg ('82) 1800 Golf GTI.  A brief list of mods goes something like this:

Exterior:

Well, as you can see it's had some work done, but needs more...

It's already had:

2 mint rust free second hand doors off a german import
2 new front wings
1 new bonnet
1 new tailgate
Alloy filler cap
Zender 3 piece rear spoiler
Electric Corrado mirrors in standard position

Once completed it will also have have:

New rear wheel arches welded in (standard size, but not rotten!)
Subtle bonnet vent, (when I find one I like!)
4 light grill (standard)
Grill spoiler (colour coded)
Sliding fabric roof from VW Polo to get rid of the nasty glass sunroof...
Full re-spray in a colour I've not decided on yet... (probably VW Aqua Blue Pearl to match my G60 Corrado)

Engine:

1800 16V (KR) rebuilt out of my old, written off Corrado, standard except for Weber "Red Line-Fire Breather" 62mm Single choke throttle body and re-weighted Seat Ibiza 1.5 Dizzy with Peugeot 205 1.1 side exit dizzy cap. (gives almost 150BHP and 145lb/Ft torque at front wheels!)
NO ECU, as timing is now vacuum advance (hence Seat dizzy!)
Uprated Poly-eurothane engine mounts
K&N panel filter in drilled and cut MKI air-box
NEW Bosch fuel pump
NEW Bosch injectors
Custom Made exhaust manifold (JP Exhausts in Macclesfield)
Standard cheapo middle and back boxes. (will get JP to make new ones eventually!)

Suspension / Running gear:

All new front wishbones, tie rods, steering rack etc.
New Poly bushes all around.
Spring/shock kit from AGES ago 50mm lower, nice ride and great handling...
Weighted short shift kit with all new bushes on linkages.
Upper front alloy strut brace (modded to fit over pipe work)
Lower adjustable alloy strut brace
1600 MKI gearbox (0-60 is stupidly quick, but you can redline in 5th and run out of gearbox at about 130mph!)
BBS 14" alloys (195/55 Yokohama A539 tyres)

Brakes: (and they actually feel reasonable now too!)

MKII 16V servo and master-cylinder
Brembo braided hoses
Dot5 brake fluid
NEW standard calipers on front
Drilled and grooved standard size front disks with Mintex 1144 pads
Standard NEW rear drums/shoes with NEW cylinders

Interior:

MKII 16V dash + clocks + Switches + blue illumination
Corrado seats (modded bases at front to make handles work properly)
MINT standard door cards + door pockets
Electric windows with switches in modified center console
3 VDO gauges (Oil temp, oil pressure, volts) in standard center vent hole
NEW full carpet set
Odds and sods that I can't remember doing over the last 5 years!
